Spaceship View & Character Detail Meme

Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day is a video arranging photographs by the Cassini spacecraft into views of what flying towards/by Saturn would look like. It's stunning and inspiring.
Meanwhile, I do so love memes, not least at moments right now when I'm afflicted with Writer's Slowdown or something. I got this from the incomparable
igrockspock: Ask me about a pairing (or character) I have written (or haven't and you think I should write) and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, etc, etc.
ETA
sharpestscalpel wrote an absolutely gorgeous ficlet about Gaila taking McCoy flying, and Gaila and her life.

Date: 2011-03-15 05:17 pm (UTC)A cheerful fact: Gaila has taken Leonard flying. (I was thinking, and suddenly had the mental image of the two of them in a swooping shuttlecraft, him all wide-eyed and shouty and her laughing and laughing.)

Date: 2011-03-15 06:19 pm (UTC)Gaila seems, to me, to be a good person with whom to conquer your fears.
In other news, I had 10 minutes while waiting on some stuff and this popped into my head:
Date: 2011-03-15 07:12 pm (UTC)Gaila isn't sure if that's a good thing but it's something new to play with. While there's something to be said for always being a surprise, there's also a lot of goodness associated with people knowing she's more than competent.
Pike knows. Jimmy knows. And Leonard, he knows. They weren't the only people to treat her like a person instead of a sex object but they were three of the very first.
She has dinner with Pike, once a month. She's caught him looking, a little wistful, a few times, but he's never acted with any impropriety, even when she pushed him, back when they first met. He'd brought her to the Academy, arranged for pheremone injections, and been a fierce defender when angry students - generally with lower GPAs - has accused her of cheating.
Gaila had played with Jimmy - he was good at sex and didn't seem inclined to try to make her settle down. She had been so glad to see him, after her rescue from the ruins of the Farragut. She had thought, once, that she loved him in her own Orion way. But it was impossible to forget that he had used her, too. There was love, still, and she suspected there always would be - he was too much like a brother, in too many ways. But, also like a brother, Gaila no longer trusted him completely.
Leonard was something of a puzzle. And Gaila did like puzzles. He blushed - so pink and exotic - and smiled shyly at her; Leonard wanted her the way other men wanted her but he also saw her for herself. It's a fine distinction and, to Gaila's mind, a fascinating one. He insists on dinner and on calling her Miss Gaila when they are out in public. He listens with unfeigned interest when she talks a stubborn engineering problem out with him - for all he has no idea what she's talking about most of the time.
And he asks her. He kisses her and asks if he can do so again. He nibbles at her collarbones and asks if he can go lower. He licks at her clit and asks if he can make her scream.
Gaila always says yes.
It makes her feel like giving him something. But Leonard says he is happy with what he has, and there are few chances to actually buy him an object. Instead of a thing, Gaila decided, she would give him something else. She would give him an experience. Sulu had laughed while he made the shuttle arrangements for her.
"May I give you this, Leonard?" She waits, poised.
And Leonard, pale but trusting, says yes.

Date: 2011-03-15 05:19 pm (UTC)I bet the first time he saw her after the Riverside Shipyard Shuttle Ride he blushed and was his gentlemanly best, and although she's generally given to retaining her first impressions, she's also open to new information, and was very charmed.
(If I had the writing ability I would totally write the story where they end up on the planet where the Black people are in charge and the White people are an underclass, because I would have so much fun writing both of them as being utterly baffled by that arrangement. But that would be shamelessly Doylistic, and I am not Gene Roddenberry, so I won't try it.)

Date: 2011-03-15 05:31 pm (UTC)Five facts:
1. At least three people asked Kirk if they could borrow Leah. He only killed one of them; he only said yes to one (Pike). His 'no's were pretty emphatic, though.
2. I know he has honest to goodness given her at least two nice surprises besides unchipping Joanna. I just haven't thought of it.
3. When he is really stressed, sometimes Kirk will get Leah alone, put her in a chair, and put his head on her lap in a silent demand to have his hair stroked. They both view it as a huge indulgence.
4. Do you remember Terwilliger from "A Star Quaking"? Kirk eventually took her on an away mission from which she didn't return. Leah wasn't pleased, not leats with her own relief.
5. Leah is the one who pronounces Kirk dead, and I do intend to write that story one day.
But here's a Gaila/Kirk/McCoy fact as well: The next day after "Time Trials" when Jim and Leonard played 'who can make Gaila come faster' -- Leonard won. And she wrapped her legs around his head and refused to let him stop there.

Date: 2011-03-15 06:02 pm (UTC)Five K/S/U ideas I should ficletize one day:
1) The second time they all had sex.
2) Nyota and Leonard discussing The Care And Feeding Of Jim Troublesome Kirk.
3) Discussing/planning T'Amanda's conception.
4) The fivesome with Leonard and Gaila and a room in Risa which was entirely soft surfaces.
5) The time Spock calmly informed Jim that he was caught precisely between punching him and kissing him, and Jim was about to say "Hit me first" and Nyota actually had to put her hand over his mouth to stop him.

Date: 2011-03-15 06:04 pm (UTC)I have the odd idea that whenever they go out to eat Jim makes Hikaru order for him, and he always likes it.
Also, they cannot resist racing each other every so often. On foot, on jetski, in shuttlecraft... and there was the one time the Enterprise and the Excelsior
did the Kessel Runtotally raced to this one starbase.(no subject)

Date: 2011-03-15 07:18 pm (UTC)Pike/One?
For you, a chunk of unfinished fic.
Date: 2011-03-16 01:09 am (UTC)Nothing has been moved, nothing has been altered, but the room feels infinitesimally smaller, and the fingers she trails along her shelves and bulkheads are larger and broader, their nails bare of polish, their knuckles square. She turns and there's empty space at her hips while her shoulders jut into the wall. In truth, it isn't her room that has changed.
Her door chime sounds, and when she calls 'Enter' she finds herself, unsurprisingly, looking into her own face, angular jaw and heavy hair and familiar blue eyes, but neither the sparkle nor the smirk are hers. "Hello, Commander," her Captain says with her voice.
"Captain Pike," she responds with his. "Come in."
He steps across the threshold, swinging her limbs, and promptly strikes a hip on the side table. One watches in worried fascination as her own face creases in pain, her own voice snarls, "Ow! Dammit, these --" He measures her hips between her hands, letting loose a low musical growl as he looks down at them, and something shifts and melts inside her, hot and liquid.
He looks up smiling. "You're laughing at me, banging up your body."
She shakes his head. "You should see what I've done to your shoulders." He smiles wider, and she admits a moment of vain pride to herself that the effect is quite pleasant; he reaches forward and her hand feels narrower and more delicate than she remembers when she wraps it in his. "Chris," she says, with his voice, and watches him close her eyes and shiver with her body.
"One," he says, softly, raptly, and looks up at her again. "Did Boyce tell you he would send me here?"
"He said he thinks we should remain in the same space until the effect reverses. What did he say to you?"
"That I'm the only captain he knows who would stumble onto a bodyswap device on shore leave, and that I'm luckier than I deserve that you were standing beside me when I set it off. And he's right." He steps a little closer, as close as they dare stand in public, and as he lifts her chin she watches the way her hair falls back from her throat and wonders if he did, before.
