Five facts: 1. At least three people asked Kirk if they could borrow Leah. He only killed one of them; he only said yes to one (Pike). His 'no's were pretty emphatic, though. 2. I know he has honest to goodness given her at least two nice surprises besides unchipping Joanna. I just haven't thought of it. 3. When he is really stressed, sometimes Kirk will get Leah alone, put her in a chair, and put his head on her lap in a silent demand to have his hair stroked. They both view it as a huge indulgence. 4. Do you remember Terwilliger from "A Star Quaking"? Kirk eventually took her on an away mission from which she didn't return. Leah wasn't pleased, not leats with her own relief. 5. Leah is the one who pronounces Kirk dead, and I do intend to write that story one day.
But here's a Gaila/Kirk/McCoy fact as well: The next day after "Time Trials" when Jim and Leonard played 'who can make Gaila come faster' -- Leonard won. And she wrapped her legs around his head and refused to let him stop there.
