A lot of the slash fangirls seem to have Hikaru pegged as a Kinsey 6. I don't, but mostly for Doylist reasons; my Hikaru's at least a 4.

When he was in his senior year of high school and at Starfleet Academy he sometimes felt like there were two Hikarus: the quiet studious one who got a degree in Physics with a minor in Botany, and the guy who learned in certain San Francisco back rooms how to channel and wield his dominant impulses until he could make people twice his age kneel to him. He was just learning about how and when and to whom he might occasionally want to bare his throat when his graduation approached and he took the term off from kink for a final burst of studies.

And then, there was the Nerada Incident, and the Enterprise, and this beautiful big-eyed Russian boy at the helm with him, and, well, that's another story. :)

I think a lot of people have Hikaru pegged as a six because George Takei is such a gorgeous example of a six, and the two bleed over. I am not very familiar with original Trek, but anytime I've seen original Sulu, I couldn't help but to perceive him as gay.

*nod* I'm glad you pointed this out -- I had meant to (as part of spelling out that I'm not *arguing* with the general fanon, at all) but got distracted and neglected to.
