BABIES and Friends.

So I did various things yesterday, but the ones that are really important: I rode to work with Tigerlily to work and I held two babies.
The school counselor brought in her GINORMOUS baby son with his huge blue eyes. He kept looking at me curiously -- apparently I resemble his Early Intervention counselor. And he is so CUTE and curious, staring at everything as if to memorize it. We had a great hour of every woman in the office clustering around him and the lone man running away (I thought of teasing him that the AD, a sturdy guy of sturdiness, would also have been all over holding the baby so he wouldn't lose any masculinity points by saying hi, but I decided that was too likely to be unfairly putting him on the spot).
After that stuff happened and it was hot outside.
Then I got to
gosling and
ceo's place and met their adorable dumpling P, who really likes being stood up and has very strong legs for how little he is. It was great to see all of them, as I haven't since before P's birth, and 5.5-year-old B is tall and smart (we chatted about adding negative numbers) and has a scarily good memory (he remembered the time I was late to dinner because I fell asleep on the T). All that and they acquired shellfish to feed me. *beams happily*
Next time I visit I must remember to bring the dairy-free Olive Oil Chocolate Chip cookies I found a recipe for.
(And oh, BABIES, with their soft cheeks and huge eyes and fuzzy heads and baby milky smell. Eee!)

Date: 2010-08-10 04:41 pm (UTC)I may take a quick look and mutter something, because it's so much expected for people of my gender, but if there's a crowd, I'll most likely let them enjoy the baby and quietly go do something else.

Date: 2010-08-10 06:45 pm (UTC)We've got regular parent+baby swim lessons at the pool where I work, and I like to joke that they're a hazard to the safety of everyone in the place because the lifeguard is invariably ignoring the whole pool and watching the baby class with a goofy grin on their face. (It's not just me, either: I've never seen a guard manage to not be charmed to the point of complete distraction.)
Some of the babies are all WATER OMG SQUEEEEE and some of them go WATER WHUT WHYYYYYY and some of them just say, "I will remain unperturbed by anything in this strange life as long as I am allowed to continue nomming on my own chubby hand."
And yeah, sharing cute-baby-squee can be surprisingly delicate sometimes! On one hand, I don't want to make people feel bad if they just don't like babies, but on the other hand: I want to make sure people (especially guys) are allowed to express appreciation for adorable tiny humans if they feel like it.
(Also, those cookies sound delicious and intriguing.)
