Behold my new default icon! Made for me by WD from a photo Tigerlily took of me, one of these four:

(Yes, I am being too lazy to determine proper sizing so I can embed the images in this post. I have chili to make and a Bambina to entertain.)

I asked Tigerlily to photograph me with wet hair so that one of these days I can ask a knowledgeable person "how do I get my hair to look like this all the time"? And because her photographs always make me look quite nice. :) The photo with the doll was just silliness. :D

I completely didn't know what my hair would do when I stopped straightening it--- I'd been straightening it my whole life! This process has really been a revelation.

Oh, on capitalizing/not capitalizing Black; I do as an indication that I'm discussing people and not colors, but it's not really a big deal, I think.

I wonder what proportion of black women straighten their hair? My observation here is about 90% of them, 5% braid it, and the other 5% trim it very very close to their heads.

Is it easier or more difficult to maintain, day to day, unstraightened? Obviously it no longer eats 6 hours of your life every 6 weeks, or whatever, not to mention the budget and the chemicals, but does it take less time each morning, too?

Here it's more like 80/10/10, but the vast majority still straighten their hair, I'd estimate.

It's much easier in all particulars. Instead of having to comb it in the mornings I just fluff it up with my fingers. Instead of having to roll it up in rollers after I wash it I can let it air-dry. It's much easier all around.
