So, Riverdance is back. I hadn't really cared until I read the review in the paper, not least "The melting pot of ddance includes the Russian Dervish, firey Latin rhythms, a sultry flamenco and an incredible tap routine in which the African American and Irish dancers go toe-to-toe in a tapping battle with only one winner, the audience." Apparently the program tells a story, from ancient times till now, of the Irish people.

I love dance, and danced stories. The article reminded me of an aspect of my childhood I loved, when my parents would take me to see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and other dance troupes. WHy yes, this is me indulging in nostalgia. Look quickly, it won't last long.

Riverdance is at the Shuubert Theatre, 270 Tremont Street (800 447 7400); can I afford a $50 ticket? Otoh, how many dinners out and summer blockbusters is that? Not very many, and I could see those anywhere and anywhen, but when will I go see dancers again?

I think you should go :)

Harvard sometimes sells discounted tickets for stuff like this; should I keep an eye out? Usually they have a table in the HSPH cafeteria on Thursday. I wouldn't mind seeing Riverdance myself. (It would probably help to have a phone number where I can reach you during the day, if you want to try to get a ticket this way. But if you don't want to take a chance, get a ticket on your own.)

BTW, ask Ben sometime about When Riverdance Crashed Arisia. They know how to PAR---tay!

It would be nifty if you looked, but don't go out of your way or anything. I should probably check out the equivalent at BU, too.

I have heard about that Mashup of Joy, yes. :D But I'd love to hear Ben's story about it!

I saw Riverdance at the Wang Center with the original cast minus Michael Flatley. Despite the kitsch reputation that the show, and Flatley, have, Riverdance itself is riveting, exciting theatre and well worth the price of the ticket. If the flamenco number is anything like it was when I saw it 10 years ago, you will be moved. The show traces the history of Irish dance into the USA and celebrates many of its influences.

*nod* I must admit, one selling point was the seeming lack of Flatley.

Would be good to go, no matter Riverdance irritates me - or MF does anyway. I liked Brendan de Gailli.

Either Mr. Flatley is not involved in this incarnation, or they're keeping him under wraps. :D

If we could find a mutually acceptable time--I would be willing to go with you. I too want to see the show again, but it's not as much fun by one's self. You need someone to share a grin with when you watch the dancers to their thing.

Maybe we should talk?
