This isn't the entry I should be writing; I should be writing about the great fun of watching the movie Hot Fuzz, how that was enhanced by watching it with WD, and how much fun dinner was between his company, the beer-and-cheese plate, and the adorable knee-booted waitress. Hopefully I'll write about that soon.

Right now, instead, I'll write this. There are people (multiple people, none of whom I expect are reading this) who are friends of several of my friends, but who are no friends of mine. Yet, because they and I have several friends in common, I see their comments in my friends' journals, and those comments invariably irritate me, so that I must say to myself, "I will not flame this annoying person in my friend's journal." Often several times. After all, I try not to start fights in my friends' journals, that's a bad practice.

So I'm writing this down, to remind myself of same. Goodness knows, there are probably people who feel this way about me.

I swear we should make this a meme and everyone ought to repost it. Because I have been sorely tempted many a time, and whereas you demonstrate wisdom here, I tend to just stew in rage.

I hate that kind of situation. *snugs*

That said, if you ever feel the need to rant/flame over a commenter in my journal, feel free to let me know.

You're really very cute when you're bitchy :-)

Having said that ... word. Oh yeah.

Yeah, I have that problem too, but this week it's "people who post other people's writing in their LJ, and then take criticism or comments on it *just as if they'd written it themselves.*"

I've decided to refer to it in my mind as "personal transference plagiarism" and it makes me smile enough to not blow up. Maybe you need a snarky term too?

If you use Firefox, you can get a Greasemonkey script that lets you killfile people on LJ. It's done wonders for my blood pressure.

Y'know, it's not your problem that these folks are asshats. Pay 'em no heed. They're dead to you. So don't waste any more time on them and stop giving them any of your power.

A comment in disagreement needn't be a flame, and an argument needn't be a fight. There's nothing wrong with expressing polite disagreement unless the journal's host has specifically requested that readers refrain from doing so.

There's a Firefox extension that can help here, by hiding their comments from you entirely. I think someone posted about it in [livejournal.com profile] lj_nifty a while back (6-12 months). Sorry I can't remember the name.

Oh, yeah. I understand that completely, because I do the same thing.

Oh yeah. I generally have a mental conversation with the person, snarking them to Jupiter and back, then carry on as normal. It's fun, releases stress and does no harm.

Yup, I'm good at carrying grudges. It's a family trait...we carry 'em in buckets, with lids on. ;)

Love you.

If anyone is ever being an idiot in my journal, I hereby give you blanket permission to start fights. It might still be bad for YOU, in which case you shouldn't do it, but it won't be bad for ME.

I do this all the time (I also suspect that there are some people who do it because of me as well). There are some journals I won't comment in, some threads I won't comment in...just because I'm aware of that.

At the same time, I'm finding that it really doesn't cause me anything more than a moment's exasperation, because I don't comment to "those" comments, ever. Ever ever.

The world does not need me to make it behave itself. ;-) And I certainly don't need the drama that would obviously arise if I said anything--not even "good morning"!

Meh.

In a hundred years, who's gonna care?

The good thing about LJ is that there is always something else to read.

You are my friend, in real life as well as in LJ terms. If you feel the need to point out that someone commenting in my journal has said something stupid or ignorant, I will not take offense.

(I trust you're not going to drop in there to say "your mother smells of elderberries and your father was a Volkswagen!")

I am very good at not reading. :P (Fortunately, there are only a few fof's that I really can't stand.)
