I and Tigerlily must be good examples of appropriate computer use; hence, no more email from work, and this is the last entry I'll be posting from work (or reading from work) for awhile.
"Appropriate computer use" is what keeps you in best headspace to do your job; I've made it clear what's optimal for me in my last two job interviews, both of which I got. I'm not sure whether I'm lucky, or phrase this in the right way, or what.
That if they want me to give the best I can give and provide the same quality of what I do as the previous examples in my CV I wave at people are up to, they have to give me unlimited mail and web access so that I can use all the resources I used to build those - with some of the perl development mailing lists waved around as examples; and anyone who's actually seen me work for ten minutes at a time knows I do five things at once, and work best if one of those is personal.
That's fair enough. I hope you'll also be models of appropriate work-hour use: Taking that legally mandated 15-minute break every morning and afternoon, taking your lunch break, and leaving on time every evening. That's fair enough. And it's the law.
