I have no idea what would make
a good introduction to a fandom but you know what would be awesome? An edition of LOTR illustrated by
ilthit aka
kivitaskula. I met her in LOTR fandom, and her hobbits (and elves, and Men, and Maiar, and...) are fantastic. She has the knack of conveying three-dimensionality in lineart, and the skill of drawing individuals recognizably.
Check out this genderswap LOTR art -- you know exactly who each of them is! I'm working on compiling a picspam with examples of her excellent LOTR art.
As for asking for help... would anyone want to beta a short bit of XMFC het-flavored femslash?
Finally,
a cherished fannish memory. Oh, there are so many to choose from! I'm tempted to list every single time I've met someone in person whom I've befriended online, but instead I'll say: when I sent
ilthit my concept drawings for my Happy Everything card, she sent me back lineart that was not only gorgeous, but also indicated that she exactly and fully grokked where I was coming from with my concept. (She added my favorite element, Baby Jesus manhandling an angel.) That feeling of being understood by a friend across the world... that's my favorite aspect of fandom.
