lomedet, of course. :)

"Professor Ep-pes?" Charlie hears behind him, in a light tenor voice with a Russian accent. He turns to see a lanky teenage boy who's vibrating with excitement and extremely adorable. Curly hair, big eager eyes, forehead earnestly furrowed -- Charlie wonders if he ever looked that damn cute back when he was a child prodigy. Probably, he thinks with equal parts sympathy and envy, and nods in greeting.
"Please sir, sign this? I would be honored." Anticipating another copy of The Attraction Equation, Charlie grits his teeth in a frozen smile until he actually sees what the boy is brandishing -- a copy of the American Journal of Mathematics. He recognizes that cover, too. It's the issue with his first paper.
As the boy watches Charlie's expression thaw, his smile goes from eager to floodlight-bright. "Chekov," he says, pressing pen and journal into Charlie's hands. "Pavel Andreievich Chekov. I would be truly honored."
"A fellow mathematician?" The boy nods vigorously, so Charlie begins with that dedication. "Here you go, Mr. Chekov."
Chekov keeps nodding, big eyes shining. "Thank you, Professor! I have read all your work I can find. Truly revolutionary. Your monograph on Emergence of Cognition was most impressive."
Cognitive Emergence? Charlie hasn't completed anything publishable on that, at least not yet... He feels his eyes go round even before young Chekov's widen further to match, huge circles in his suddenly bloodless face.
Chekov spins away, grabbing pen and journal from Charlie's nerveless fingers. Charlie shouts, "Hey, wait!" but the long-legged boy is already gone.

Date: 2009-06-22 01:41 pm (UTC)You know I have a huge soft spot for Anton Yelchin, right? I've had my eye on him as an actor since he was on ER as a little kid.
I do wonder if he and DK ever met on the set since that was DK's first two episode appearance on ER as well - and so memorable. Eep! They both did an awesome job.
There needs to be more Charlie and Chekov fic. Srsly. Bribery may need to occur.
Besides, Pavel makes the CUTEST fanboy EVAR!
/tries very hard not to slash them/
Thank you for this my dear. I was waiting for someone to Reboot N100. ;-)
P.S. Yes, it is 6 something in the morning here. Damn insomnia...

Date: 2009-06-23 04:48 pm (UTC)Oh, man, slashing them would be/have been something. I would really have to brush up on my math, since they would totally talk math in bed. *nurtures the tiny nascent plotbunny*
I hope you got some sleep since. *sends you anti-insomnia vibes and many hugs*

Date: 2009-06-23 06:59 pm (UTC)But yes, Anton was in the episode where DK was a VERY bad man and did something VERY bad to two regulars causing one to no longer be a regular. (How's that for spoiler safety? LOL) Anyway, in that episode there were two kids - a boy and a girl - whose parents had been brought in following a car wreck. Both parents couldn't be saved so suddenly the kids are orphans. The little girl didn't do anything exceptional, but wee!Anton broke my heart! I knew if he could act like that as a kid he'd be amazing as an adult. He did a guest star turn on Criminal Minds that I almost want you to watch as a one shot since he did a great job playing a disturbed teenager who reaches out to Reid, the resident boy genius of the team. Just fabulous. He rather made the woman playing his mother look bad because her performance seemed so one dimensional compared to his lovely nuanced portrayal.
I'm not sure how I'd slash them, but part of me wants to fuse Pavel into Princeton as a peer to Charlie and Marshall so he's like an escape for Charlie - someone to bond with for strength against the ass that is Marshall Penfield. They'd have a wonderfully sweet first romance relationship as teens, discovering themselves, fumbling their way through with uncertainty and affection. /sigh/ But Charlie in Star Fleet would be good too.
Regardless, this was just so lovely Magister and I were off talking about it on *her* LJ, so kudos to you for a memorable piece. /smishes/
