NIP Amnesty: Four Hobbit Story Ideas
Mar. 23rd, 2009 08:26 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I'm about to do some WIP Amnesty posting, and I figured that you who are my friends should get some benefit besides reading my whiny posts, so here are some NIP Amnesty tales, as in "Never In Progress Amnesty". Aka, story ideas with notes.
Title: 'Hobbit Ghost Story'
Fandom: LOTR
Rating: As it is: N/A As it would have been: PG, PG-13?
Pairing: OC hobbits.
Notes: I came up with this back when I wanted to try to join Stories of Arda. Then I wrote it into a slash-n-het threesome. I have no sense of self-preservation.
write for Halloween ; frame story two people whispering in the Lockholes.
http://www.livejournal.com/community/ringprov/34098.html
(it's a legend of the summer after the Fell Winter)
http://www.livejournal.com/community/ringprov/27133.html
(do this one on the legend Rosie thinks of in 'Festival Dancing')
A lass promises a lad before Yule that she'll dance with him, but he vanishes, having died. At Lithe he reappears to dance, and his kiss burns her cheek with cold.
The girl's name is Chrysanthemum.
At last, wanting to have been gone, wanting to get back into the bed, wanting to know the right thing to do, Rosie hauled herself to her feet. It was past dawn now, rising to morning, and she reminded herself that she ought to be getting on home before her parents fretted and sent her brothers to find her. The thought of any of her family finding out how she'd danced her Lithe made Rosie's face burn anew as she sorted through the clothes strewn all askew and outside-in on the floor. Slowly she straightened the clothes, smoothing out Mr. Frodo's fine garments and laying them on the chair by the window, folding Sam's and piling them neatly on the foot of the bed, shaking her own out so she could wear them home, as she thought of an old tale of a lass who had danced at Lithe with a beautiful ghost; in one version of the story the maiden bore for the rest of her life a kiss-shaped mark on her cheek, where the ghost's kiss had burned her with its cold. Rosie felt a bit like that, burned by a beautiful and perilous magic.

Title: The Jewels of Long Cleeve
Fandom: LOTR
Rating: As it is: N/A. As it would have been: PG-13 for violence
Characters: Diamond Took's sisters and other OC hobbits; Pippin Took
I gave Diamond sisters because... well, because I couldn't resist the idea of the Jewels. But I love the idea of this passel of lasses, tall and ranging from tomboyish to prissy. Diamond is #3 of 4 or 5; I know Emerald is the oldest and Opal is younger than Diamond. I should work out the rest.
If I write that story... basically, one sister has friends/connections in a more notherly yet village than Long Cleeve. She goes up there (maybe she's gotten no letters from said friend) and finds it swarmed by some of the ruffians, settling in. She gets a letter out via one of the young teenagers, who runs to Long Cleeve; then the message gets relayed, maybe carried by Diamond herself, while Hildy of Long Cleeve must defend the town and help the villagers, till help arrives from his kin and the rest of the Shire. Meanwhile, the sister has to survive in the occupied town, and that just gets harder when the Men find out her real identity. (They have a hate-on for Tooks, and want to invade Long Cleeve when they get stronger.)
Diamond's sisters:
Emerald, Ruby, Diamond, Sapphire, Opal
Sapphire, I think. Her blue eyes.
The main problem is figuring out how Opal isn't hideously molested she can be rescued, because otherwise the story is unpostable. Maybe they argue over her and decide to torture her for info about Long Cleeve first.
Title: The Heir of Bag End
Fandom: LOTR
Rating: As it is: N/A. As it would have been: PG13 or R
Characters: Frodo Gardner, Elanor, Fastred, Sam, Rosie
Notes:
Write for Marigold's challenge #11. A hobbit holiday. Frodo's birthday.
why Frodo Gardner is called Frodo Gardner
When he's 31 going on 32 his parents tell him that he's really 32 going on 33, and why. Conflicted, he goes to talk to Elanor, who understands what he's dealing with. She advises him to take the name Frodo Gardner, and he does.
Have him say to Sam , you raised me, you're my Da.

Frodo has a lass and a lad as lovers, and it throws a wrench into the works of his relationships with both.
drabble on frodo-lad: http://www.livejournal.com/users/elycia/8825.html?style=mine
Between Frodo and Rose-lass was Bell Gamgee/Gardner, who died right after birth.
Frodo is a year and 2 weeks younger than Elanor (spring after Frodo leaves). So when this takes place Elanor is 33, and pregnant with her first child.
http://www.tuckborough.net/gamgee.html#Elfstan
For Frodo Gardener story: Prologue: a gammer looking at Rosie's baby and saying "pretty baby, bight blue eyes, when yours and the older child's are grey and his father's are brown." Rosie says "well, Bell gamgee's were blue". In story: he likes to dance, and has three kissing friends, two lasses and a lad, and is cheerful but a little otherworldly. Hi parents tell him. He feels weird. He goes to his sister, who says "whose child do you feel like?" he says "Ma's, and Da's, but Frodo's, too."
Title: The Heiress of Bag End
Fandom: LOTR
Rating: As it is: N/A. As it would have been: PG-13 at most
Characters: Elanor, Rose-lass, Fastred, OCs
Note: fight between Elanor and Rose is over whether someone's courting Rose to get to Elanor.
Here we go. Open story with Fastred sitting between Rose and Elanor, who are Not Speaking. They're off to Greenholm, Rose as Elanor's chaperone (why Elle is cross) and Rose cross because of fight over above issue. Fastred suggests a walk, and both girls vanish; Elanor's ex and a friend (to whom he promises Rose) attack. Elanor gets kidnapped, Rose runs away and meets Calen, Elanor gets herself away, and eventually all are reunited. End of story Rose and Elanor in baths, and female visitors, and Fastred calling comments through door. Rose gets out of bath and sends Fastred in.
Undertowers idea
Why does Elanor look so unsettled in this picture? An adventure story featuring hobbits both good and brutish, in-laws, and Elanor and Fastred as betrotheds, and maybe a ranger or two
http://gokuri.pupu.jp/gallery/ela.html
Someone tries to abduct Elanor. Maybe title should be "Heiress of Bag End" She runs away into the forest, meets a Ranger, etc.
Elanor's inlaws think she must be stupid because she's pretty, but for the youngest child.
Shirebound plot bunny:

11. King Elessar gives Sam “the Star of the Dunedain” (a diamond) 15 years after Frodo leaves Middle-earth. What does Sam do with it, once he has it? What becomes of it when he sails West? [Worn by Elanor, then Mathom-house]

http://community.livejournal.com/absurdconcept/30308.html
An ex of Elanor's and his friend follow her to the Undertowers to abduct her and force her to wed him. She sits still and thinks of her Da's training, gets a hand on a stick of wood from the fire, and clubs one senseless and runs away before they can tie her up. Meanwhile, Fastred goes looking for her, telling his family it's not like her, and she runs into Calenbarad, now a tall youth of sixteen and a Ranger in Training. Everyoine meets up together (before Fastred can accidentally run into the two miscreants (as Elanor worries he will) and she is returned to Fastred's family all smudged and bedraggled. She drops her best curtsey.
Last scene, she's taking a bath and someone or a succession of someones come in to talk to her. Last one Fastred.
