[livejournal.com profile] sophonisba finds the best stuff, such as [livejournal.com profile] multific's Finish-a-Thon. I'm really tempted to join this, so I might as well write up my entries. But, as ever, I have a decision to make.

"How Lucy Fell"
Fandom: Sweeney Todd (2007 Movie)
Description: "Lucy didn't take the arsenic on the first night." Lucy, forced to be Judge Turpin's concubine now that she's a 'fallen woman', tries to safeguard her daughter from him, tries to kill herself, and fails at both, but not for lack of trying.
Type: Het. Non-con, obviously.
Rating: NC-17, possibly as low as R but no lower.

"My Day of Trouble"
Fandom: Shakespeare, the Henry Plays
Description: Prince Hal / Henry Scroop of Masham. I'm not going to write it all in blank verse, but I will either try to make the language resonate somewhat with Shakespeare's, or give up *entirely* on that and try to make it clear and timeless.
Type: slash.
Rating: R or NC-17.

"Mim's Wooing"
Fandom: LOTR Hobbitfic
Description: Merimas Brandybuck (from the family trees) falls in love with Peridot Took (OFC) while they are in the Lockholes during the Year of Troubles. After that year he comes to visit her. Scenes from his visit will alternate with scenes from the Lockholes.
Type: Het. Violence and non-con referred to.
Rating: PG-13 or R.

"The Queen's Architect"
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Description: An AU, set in Minoan Crete, where Don, Captain of the Palace Guard, and his brother Charlie, brilliant architect, must determine the safety of several important buildings and catch the saboteur undermining them. Or something. I haven't quite settled on the plot, but if this is chosen I will.
Type: Right now, het-and-slash flavored gen, I think. No Don/Charlie in this one.
Rating: PG, maybe PG-13.

"Alignment"
Fandom: DC comics
Description:Tim and Steph investigate Gotham's Solar System Scale Model, magical disturbances, and Original Gothamites' disappearances, and find a link between all three.
Type: het. Some actioney-violence.
Rating: PG to PG-13

"Forests of the Night" / "Blue Eyes Shine" (debating title to myself)
Fandom: DC Comics
Description: Before Infinite Crisis Dick Grayson infiltrates the Secret Society of Supervillains by working for, and under, Slade Wilson.
Type: slash. Possibly violence, not certain.
Rating: R or NC-17.

I hesitate to include these because I'm not sure I can write them anymore. The impetus for writing "Alignment" was to read Tim & Steph adventures, and... not only are those in current comics, but... note my lack of exclamation points. I'm delighted that Steph is back and she's working with Tim in his current storyline, but in a distant kind of way. I haven't had much time for comics recently, many of my friends there have gone in other directions, an asshole is ascendant in the fandom and I don't think I have the force of squee behind this story.

"Forests of the Night" languishes beneath the same ennui, alas, and it's also just really, well, very 2005. Most people in comics ficdom right now likely don't remember that entire milieu, let alone the Dick/Slade show. So, I'm not sure.

I'd probably better decide soon, though; sign-ups close 8/15, and I really should sign up by the day before to be safe.

In related news, [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf finds pretty nifty stuff too: today is the last day to submit prompts for the DC/Marvel Ficathon at [livejournal.com profile] dcmarvelthon!

I vote for "Mim's Wooing" because, well--you and hobbits are always a delightful and winning combination! *casts hopeful puppydog eyes at you*

*giggles and huggles you* I do intend to write all these stories; this is more a matter of deciding which first. I'll always love hobbits, after all. :)

I'm voting for DC-fic (either of them, because while Dick/Slade is more appealing at the moment, it might be Tim/Steph tomorrow), because I'm not much into any of the others (except maybe the hobbits, you do them well indeed), but you shouldn't let anybody talk you into writing a fandom you don't feel like writing at the moment.

And just out of curiosity: who's meant by "an asshole is ascendant in the fandom"?

One of these days I really hope to write both those DC stories; I'm just not sure that day is today. Ah, life. :)

I think that you should write as muses guide
For heart's delight, and damn what "should" or "ought"
May push upon your pen (well, fingertips).
My selfishness says, "Any of these tales
Except for Numb3rs would be peachy-keen,"
But if the math calls, who am I to judge
What joys you find in a Euclidean scheme?

If my vote isn't truly coming clear
By virtue of these lines, I beg you, love,
Forgive my proud conceit, and disregard
My style in honor of my words' true cause:
Write Todd or Hobbits, Hal or Robins true,
Long as the story sings its life to you.

PS (Where ladies always hide their truth)
The trick in writing meter is: there's none,
But if you were inspired to have a go
I'd beta-read it for you, top to toe.

I love you SO MUCH. And maybe you should write it rather than me. :D

(I'm going to write it; this ficathon is pretty much about when.)

(And did I mention how much I love you?)

And in return, I love you, winsome friend,
But I'm afraid that Hal is not my kink.
(I'm far more apt to write it on the slant
Through odd and Northern lenses, as it were,
For though I may be able to command
The iambs (sometimes, anyway, it seems)
I shudder at the concept of the work
Involved in mocking the right era's speech.

Would that, along with meter, I controlled
Parentheses to keep my words patrolled
And marshaled into lines that better flowed.
