LJ Boycott, Friday March 21

So, the New Owners looked promising. Then they did asshatty things like announcing that there will be no more Basic accounts, and removing 'bisexuality' and 'fanfiction' from the list of Most Popular Interests, but hey, they put the latter back. So I wasn't going to join Friday's boycott, especially since I've been doing a posting-project this week.
And then I read in a reputable friend's journal (a quotation from the interview translated here):
So you're sure there will be no boycott?
Anton Nosik: No, I didn't say that. Because any person can create several hundred fake LJ accounts, comment in them that on the 21st of march I will be silent in protest. Then you journalists can quote those fake users and list the names of those that were silent that day. And add a cute catchprase like "that's just the top of the iceberg"
Meet the new boss, just as dismissive as the old boss.
*starts winnowing icons for when I take this journal down to unpaid*
I posted that while angry, and I don't expect this boycott will prove anything to people who have so manifestly made up their minds about us. But just because someone won't care what one says doesn't mean one shouldn't say they are wrong.
