I've done this meme before, but it's fun, so why not do it again?

If you make up titles for stories I didn't write, I will respond with details of those non-written stories. Just think of the possibilities! (If you'd like to include details you'd like, pairings or fandom or something, you can do that too.)

LotR - Merry & Pippin - A Way With Words

I was tempted to make the pairing Molly & Ruby, just to see what you'd come up with. :D

*blushes and huggles you*

Well, reading [livejournal.com profile] sophinisba's story "Lost in Translation" made me think about Merry giving Pippin language lessons as a way to learn Elvish himself, and the idea was so hilarious I simply had to run with it.

Now you must link me to "Lost in Translation," because I've never seen it.

Every time people do this meme there's always a prompt that really must become a real story. "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" is one such prompt. At the rate I'm going I might get it done next spring, but I think I have a story to write you.

"Take Me To the River" is one of those things I wrote because I'm from New York City. If Gotham has her stories, the Gotham River must too. Plus, it was an excuse for a wet Steph.

*g* That title's been haunting me, too, and not just for the FO'C overtones.

I like the Gotham River as protagonist, too.

Shuffle Your Feet *g*

Roy noticed the smell of smoke first, the crisp burnt-hay scent of dried grass and weeds on fire that sets off alarm bells deep in the heart of Westerners. He glanced around, trying to keep one eye on the cabin, and saw thick billows coming from beneath Bart's feet. Bart's blurry feet.

"Impulse!" was out of Roy's mouth before he even remembered to argue himself into calling Bart 'Kid Flash'. Before he could correct himself he was sailing backwards, folded over a thin hard bar that turned out to be Bart's arm, watching the world turn to speed streaks.

"I'm sorry, I guess I got bored, but everything was so quiet and I don't think they were ever coming out." Roy rocked on his heels, stationary as suddenly as he'd been moved. "Did I start a forest fire? Uh, wow, sorry. We're gonna need water, won't we? I'm going to get Kon, I'll be right back."

"Wait---" Roy said, or tried to say. The breeze behind Bart whisked a leaf into Roy's open mouth.

Routine mission, right.

It continues to amaze me that you read stories of mine without Frodo in them. Well, ok, he did have a cameo. :D

I just couldn't help thinking that a Ranger's life is really hard; I could see a teenage or tweenage Ranger running away, and a friendly wise hobbit talking him into going back, and Bilbo's canonically good with tweenagers, so it all fit together.

I still can't believe I added the porn, though. *laughs at myself*

Like most of my Roy!Fic it's at least partially your fault, you know. I forget when, but something you said gave me the key to the balance between Roy's brand of Robinosexuality and the fact that I really do think he knows Tim isn't actually Dick.

I'm sorry I left out the porn, though. I think I wore myself out on the adventure half of the story, not least coming up with reasons for every cat-themed person in the DCU to show up. Maybe in the sequel?

Rose Gamgee "One Too Many"

From: [identity profile] rubynye.livejournal.com
For the first time in years, Rosie looked at Sam and didn't know his thought. His face was still, the lines set deep, as if he'd been carven from stone; his big hands gently patted the earth over the small grave even after it was even, and she stood on shaky legs, Elanor quietly clinging to her hand, and wondered what was in her husband's heart.

Rosie had chosen the name Bell for their daughter, after all, even those Sam insisted the next should be named after Rosie herself. Did he blame her now for it, now that the baby had died aborning, for not heeding him, for wasting the name? Had she reopened the wound of his mother's loss? She'd only meant....

Rosie sniffled once, but her eyes were red and sore and dry. Sam stood up, dusting off his hands, satisfied the seeds were well settled. He walked back to Rosie with his face closed, his gaze inward, but he wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her brow. "Come, my lasses," he said, with no reproof or blame. "Fro-lad's waiting, and you've been from bed too long, Rose. Let's go home."

In "When Harley Met Kory", Kory fit so well in Gotham, and I've been wanting to inflict a foreign dignitary on Jim Gordon for awhile. Besides, I couldn't resist the mental image of Kory whisking him out of the car with one hand and shoving it across the highway with the other. If I could draw, I'd be dangerous. :D

I shrieked in delight when I realised you'd written about Ruby and Laurelin (and Tolman! Oh, Tolman) in "A Touch of Light"! I could hardly contain my squee.

And "Wander"! Merry and Pippin! And with just enough Estella and Diamond that my OT4-loving heart swelled to bursting.

What can I say, sweetie, I kive your hobbits, and I love the idea of Ruby the Healer, and you know I can't ever get enough of the ways we've decided they arrange their relationships, the cheerful V sort of thing.

I wanted to give you an excerpt from the Unused Scene on the porch swing, but I can't find it. If I do I'll email it to you. *wink*

"Wander" developed in a funny way, in its way. I'd never thought of writing Merry and Pippin in Gondor, but the idea just came to me. And, well, of course they'd remember their wives!

Oh, Elanor and Her Evil Pimple, yes. I had been hanging out with teenagers too long that day month year.

The Day the Bull Won really should be art. I've always thought that fanart of Death of the Endless as a Minoan Lady, intricately dressed but in black and white rather than riotous color, would be wonderful. And, hey, thank you for reading my little hist-fic snip. :)

The Day of Heroes? Oh, I haven't written that yet. :D

Clearly I don't read enough Rubyfic. Not that this comes as a surprise to anyone... I have not read any historical fic snippets from you, either, I just know you like them bull-leapers.

I received your packet! Oh Ruby, you are wonderful! Loved the maple syrup candy - they were almost too pretty to eat, but I did anyway - only have one left. The note had been crumbled in the post, but I magneted it on the fridge anyway - with the magnet. :D You are so thoughtful and sweet! I want to send you something back - I'll just figure out something proper first. And er, I should read Rubyfic. (If it's any consolation, I don't read fic at all these days, save on rare occasion a ficlet or two...)

We haven't eaten the chocolate, because the Gilly decreed that it IS too pretty to eat.

I *loved* A million humdrum worlds, with all that stuff about Slade and how he loves his job and how he sometimes meant to quit and now he knows he never will. So *good*.

It all started with Grayson would've laughed to see Slade now.. I mean, literally, since that's the first line, but it began with my mental image of Slade thinking that ruefully as he actually works for the Good Folk. For a modestly huge fee, of course. *grin*

(My first reaction was that you have more faith in me than I do in myself. But I thought I'd try.)

Babs' cursing is the most beautiful sound Dick has heard all day, even if, especially because, she's cursing in a language he doesn't know. Possibly Turkish or a relative. He lies with his arm over his eyes, listening to thuds and crashes and her cursing getting closer, and wonders if she'll kick the door in.

She does. It sounds wonderful. "Get up, you absolutely braindead---"

He could listen to her curse for awhile, but they don't have time. "Hi, Batgirl. I'd love to, but I can't." He shakes his ankle so the chain jingles. "It's great to see you, and I'm really fine, but you'd probably go before---"

"I didn't know we were expecting company," Slade says, having appeared in the doorway. Dick was watching the doorway behind Babs' wonderful silhouette, and Slade still came out of nowhere. Babs turns and Dick sits up, arm out, saying "Wait!" to both of them.

Neither of them listens. But they don't attack each other. Babs smiles, Dick can see it in the side of her face. It's not a real smile. It's still very pretty. "Let him go," she says pleasantly.

Slade laughs, full and rich. "You can't just walk in here and ask for things, pretty Bat."

"Who said I was asking?" Babs takes a step, cocking her hip. It's a lovely movement, of course, but it doesn't distract Dick from the fact that he's starting to get worried.
