Petra's Drabble Project

petronelle is currently doing a drabble exchange in her journal. It's full of wonderfulness, and if you share any of her fandoms (which include but aren't limited to DC Comics, the new Battlestar Galactica, Supreme Power, and Bujold's books) you'll enjoy a look.

I wrote this little thing for it; it's DC Comics, gen, Dick and Steph.

Steph's fist won't move --- Nightwing's got her wrist, and he's not budging. She leans back a little, planting her knee on the perp's chest. "What."

The medium-grim look, thinned lips and lowered brows. "Stop."

"Why?" The asshole wheezing beneath her deserves a helluva worse beating than she can dish out, but she was giving it her best. "Don't tell me---"

"You don't deserve---"

"I don't? What the---"

"To hurt someone worse than you meant to." Nightwing --Dick, now--- he's still holding her wrist, but extends his other hand. "C'mon, Robin. You got him." And smiles.

Shaking her head, Steph grabs hold and gets up.

Oh, I am fond of Dick here. Of Steph, too, but of Dick. He's very much portrayed the way he felt to me, once, and during his best periods in canon. As the Bat able to read others - as all acrobats must - the best, and the one most willing to reach out and care for others. It was what separated him the rest of his family, and you really captured that here.

And I love Steph's anger here.

The Dick I was trying to evoke here is the one who could make Batman smile, who knit the Titans together. So your comment lets me know I did what I was trying to do, and made me happy dance around the room. :D

I do love Steph for her anger. I know what the guy did, though it wouldn't fit in a drabble, and it *was* pretty bad.
