I must confess, I tend to post memes when I have no fic to post, and due to RL issues I haven't been able to write much for awhile. But this is a pretty good meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf. Meanwhile, I'll try to get back to working on a few stories.

Anyway.

What is your alias?
Ruby Nye, with or without the space.

How did you choose it?
I created this journal for LOTR hobbit fanfic, so I wanted something very vaguely pseudo-English and pseudo-hobbity. Also, an element in it is related to my real name.

What fandoms do you write for?

Currently, DC Comics Batfamily, occasionally LOTR; used to write LOTRPS AUs, am contemplating Numb3rs.

What stories are you currently working on?

*laugh at self*
I have a set of Robins-het that basically just need to be posted. Ones in my "currently writing" file: Three robins on a rooftop; five things Steph did after she died; Tim telling Dick and the rest of us why he hasn't quit Robining; six threesomes Kory was/never in; Steph and Cass and reading lessons; Tim and Batman and Dick, all in all comprising two young men, Prodigal era; Tim and Rose, because someone compared them to Buffy and Spike, and my resistance is low at the best of times.

What fandom did you start in?
The first fanfic I knowingly wrote was set in Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar series. OCs, in the form of "personas", were pretty much required.

What is your deepest darkest fic-writing secret?
I pay way too much attention to who has me friended, who comments on my stories, and what recs I get. I don't have any recs in the DCU on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van and ooooh do I want one... it's shameful, I know.

Also, I write too much about sex. But that's not a *secret*.

Do you have any quirks/habits in your writing?

I don't know enough about others' processes to know if I'm quirky, but I tend to think of my writing like sculpting in clay (which is funny, because I have never sculpted for anything other than a school assignment). I start with an armature of an outline, supplemented by notes about particular images, moments and themes I want to make sure I work in. I add dialogue and preliminary descriptions, then edit to flesh out and refine the descriptions and to align the voices of the dialogue with the voices in my sources. I sometimes reread my source, if I'm basing a story on something short like one issue or a single arc. Then I edit some more, and then send the story off to beta. At random intervals throughout, I bang my head on the wall.

When the story comes back I bang my head on the wall some more, implement the beta's comments, let the story sit a bit longer, then give it a final re-read or three. A final head-bonk, and I post.

Do you have any fanfiction pet peeves?
Pet peeve lists, to be honest. Every time I read one I find something I do/have done on the list (and I may flatter myself, but I believe I usually have a good reason for having done it, be it a songfic, an OC, or leaving out the condoms), and thereby find myself struggling against the scoldable part of myself to reassert my creativity. The voices that tell me I'm wasting everyone's time and electrons are strong enough without giving them more fodder. Besides, I usually also have to keep myself from arguing with the poster, and sometimes I fail my wisdom roll.

Besides, I'd rather list things I like. :)

Do you have an OTP?
I usually have characters I love, rather than an OTP. I may have favorite pairings, but I'm not monogamous about them, let alone rabid and given to flaming fans of other pairings. Maybe it's because at worst I'm indifferent to a pairing; I rarely actually dislike one. Maybe it's because one thing I do really dislike is the concept of X and Y against the entire rest of the universe that so many people who have OTPs seem to promulgate. It's not enough to pair X and Y, but all possible other love interests must suffer character assassination (especially female characters who stand in the way of slash pairings), friends and family members must either senselessly stand in the way of the True Love or encourage it against the world's onslaught, and everyone else must be prejudiced against the lovers somehow. Love is difficult enough without turning it into a war for survival.

Man, that got kind of long. Anyway, yeah, I both do and don't have OTPs.

I always conclude that I, naturally am not being addressed with whatever pet peeve list. It keeps me sane.

And why have said stories not been posted? *taps foot impatiently* I want to read them! :)
