The OTP Meme

So for my birthday I'm going to see if I can start a meme. Because.
Many people have one, well, true pairing. But many of us do not. We have different OTPs for different reasons, and even though that's an inaccurate use of the term, I think it's a useful one (and yes, I have been known to say ATM machine).
So, what are your OTPs, OT3s, etc? And why?
Nearly everyone loves Frodo/Sam, and I know of few people who slash hobbits who don't slash them at least occasionally. So, moving right along....
...Merry/Pippin, same thing. Especially when I want to write about *lads*, boys, people who are young together.
Less commonly: I really love Frodo/Pippin, for the age and experience span that is wide enough to display personalities against but not so wide as to be wrong, for the mix of similarities and differences they present. Whereas I love Sam/Merry more for their similarities (age, sturdiness, love for Frodo) and how their particular differences can highlight their similarities.
Amusingly enough, I seem to have ended up with a femslash OTP, (Pervinca/Rosie) though does it count when I mostly constructed one character from a name and a sibling?
In tnterspecies, I love Boromir/MerryPippin *and* Boromir/Merry and Boromir/Pippin, in that I love the interplay of the three of them and the similarities between Boromir and Merry and the contrast of Boromir and Pippin. And Faramir and Pippin just makes me squee with romantic delight, not to mention that I see them as similar in ways that mirror the ways I see Boromir and Merry as similar.
In threesomes, I love Frodo/Sam/Rosie and Frodo/Merry/Pippin both (I've been thinking about it, as I'm writing a story about the interplay between those two threesomes, hinged on Frodo). Frodo with his cousins, gentlehobbits all; Frodo with Sam and Rose, caring for and about him.
(And of course, the OT4....*winks at Dana*)
Then there are the ones I search out when reading, but don't write.
I am a sucker for the Gondorian threesome-that-never-was and all the twosomes within it. Yes, including Boromir/Faramir. *ducks* There's some amazing writing there, no, really, don't hurt me....
I'm not really fond of the Rohrrhim; I love Theoden and Eowyn (who has one of the slashiest het relatioonships ever, with Merry, and I love that one written well) despite Rohan, rather than because of it, but I like Aragorn/Eomer. Go fig. Kings together, I guess.
*reads back over* For all I don't write him much, I really like reading about Aragorn. *laughs at self*
So, those are my OTP's. I could say more, but my boyfriend's eyes are already in danger of rolling across the floor. :D

Date: 2005-01-02 02:32 pm (UTC)Anyway, to answer your question:
Well, Frodo/Aragorn is probably my main OTP. For me, it's all about the tension. Surly ranger and gentlehobbit with beautiful eyes :-) And then they have this passion for things Elvish thing in common and Aragorn feels so naturally protective toward Frodo (I like to believe he'd be like that even IF he didn't have the Ring, lol).
Next, Frodo/Faramir. These two are really a match made in heaven. Both bookish, fascinated by music and language and history, both a little like outcasts among their society, both serious and yet a bit dreamy. I can see them living a dream together for a long, long time. And if you go with canon and all (hee hee), there is that initial extreme tension between them that kicks up the sexx drive...
And Frodo/Boromir. Purely physical. Opposites might attract, but I think if they lived in a hovel together (and I've done that in my Calembel series, harhar), they'd drive each other crazy with Boromir's manly war mongering and Frodo's peaceful bookishness. But then they'd have grate sex every night so who cares...
Frodo/Halbarad. Heh. Just because. It could have happened....that Halbarad slunk around the Shire for quite awhile before the quest ;-)
If any hobbit pairings at all, I go with Frodo/Sam, but it has to be quest or post-quest. Depending on how it's done, I don't much like prequest F/S (even though I've written it before, lol) There is something incredibly hot and desperate about how Sam will do anything for his Frodo and how Frodo is openly grateful for it and how they just give so much to each other. Gah! Next would be Frodo/Merry, but it would have to be book verse...
Not that interested in anything in which Frodo isn't a part of it...

Date: 2005-01-02 03:09 pm (UTC)I'm from the superstitious school and don't inquire into the why of an attraction to a pairing. Am shallow that way :-)

Date: 2005-01-02 04:13 pm (UTC)and the fantastic musicians *cough*Billy*cough*. And really, they're so sweet and stuff together. :D:D:D What pisses me off about this pairing is that they won't let me write smut about them. Noooo, they yell, "Get lost, you pervy wench!" at me and close the curtains! Makes it tough to write anything higher than PG-13. :P:P:P Sure, Sod the Griffin! and I Love A Hobbit in A Uniform are rated R but it's all pretty much implied. So because of my 'OTP' (I use the term loosely because while they're my favourite I will quite happily read them in/with other pairings) I have a fondness for hobbit-centric fic, pretty much any pairing, het, gen, slash, hobbitpiles, interspecies....lalala...:D:D:D
And of course Merry/Pippin led me to Billy/Dom, but that's a whole 'nuther kettle of fish....

Date: 2005-01-03 06:27 am (UTC)I am so obvious in my OTP, it's no surprise, is it? Merry/Pippin, of course, oh yes! :) Although in thinking about it - I suspect that any pairing that includes Merry will end up being a version of my OTP, since every smutty story I've written so far includes him (except one - which is Frodo/Sam, so you are right there - I hadn't thought about that before! :) It's funny, in other fandoms, I've never been so focused on one character before... On the other hand, my genfic spreads itself a bit more widely, so I don't feel my obsession is completely without leavening... :)

Date: 2005-01-04 04:30 pm (UTC)Also, I'm with Mariole on the Frodo as "smuffy mooker" (never heard the term before, but am in lurve with it!). I tend to write Frodo-centric fics and am most drawn to him in the fics I read. In a well-written fic, the pairing hardly matters at all.
