Pokemon Go

I actually could not care less about Pokemon, personally. Nothing wrong with them, they're just not my thing.

But, I really love reading the discussions of it, people's adventures, their connections over this shared interest. And I really appreciate the discussions of problems with the game, security concerns, inaccessibility to people with various disabilities, how racism makes playing it risky, and so on. It feels like the sharing ethos it's fostering has been extended into listening to and considering how to ameliorate these various problems, too.

And it's just plain fun to watch people having non-negative fun. I just kind of hope no one else weaponizes the game (with thanks to thnidu for the link).

Same. I mean, I do care somewhat about Pokemon, but I'm a spectator because of the privacy and security concerns. But I'm enjoying being a spectator, and it is delightful watching so many people go loopy about a new fandom at the same time.

I love how this post did not go the way so many comments about the game have which is "I don't care about Pokemon so stop posting about it" and I'm like


People being weird on (and through) the internet is one of my favorite things, so I, too, am loving the craze even though I'm not participating in it.

The boys have played Pokemon on their DS's, so I was planning for it to be a family thing we did together, except neither of their devices are up-to-date enough, but my phone is and I am enjoying it WAAAAAY too much. :) Thanks for that link; I put it on FB. I am feeling drained from walking around downtown (my town, not the city) today, and I know there will be days I just can't but still want to get some playing in.
