Today was a day of movies: WD and I went to see Hateful 8. I cannot review the movie without being spoilery, so here goes: It was, in the end, a charming and bloody tale of how two men on opposite sides of a political and racial divide could bond in friendship over killing a woman as painfully as possible.
Okay, there was a helluva lot more in it than that, but that was one of the two times where I wasn't in synch with the rest of the audience, who were laughing and cheering while the (admittedly deserving but still) female character was strangled by the last two male characters. The other time was during the recounting of a sexual assault that I believe, despite the film including flashbacks, was made up in order to wind up the character it was told to, rather than actually committed, because I WANT TO that's why. The audience kept laughing nervously and I kept hiding behind my souvenir movie playbill.
So, um, we saw it. It was gorily entertaining if overly long, bu all in all I'd rather go see Star Wars or The Martian again.
