Most of this entry is about the Oscars.

I am delightedly shocked that 12 Years a Slave won the three awards I most hoped for for it (Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture), and proudly delighted that Ms. Nyong'o thanked Patsey in her speech and that Mr. McQueen reminded us of the millions who live in bondage today in his.

I know there are people who are variously displeased by this. I DO NOT CARE AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THEM. Instead I am going to paste three pictures from 2014's Oscars which make me happy into my journal:

That's such a gorgeous color on Gabourey. I really like her. And Lupita knocks me flat every time I see her. She's so gorgeous and talented. After seeing that picture, I want her and Jennifer to team and do a movie together. Maybe they can be supersleuths or ace lawyers or something.

I thought Lupita was far and away the most stunning woman in the joint last night--the dress was a deeper sky blue than it seems to be in a lot of the photos, and the contrast between it and her skin just made her glow...and let's not forget the headband, which was just the right touch of princessy. It was also sweet to see Jennifer being so genuinely happy that her competitor won, and yes, it would rock to see the two of them working together. Oh, and that color is stunning on Gabby and the dress much better than the one she wore as a nominee IMO.

I didn't watch the Oscars (I don't get out enough to watch enough movies for them to matter to me), but even I heard that a lesbian hosted the show, and a black woman was the hit of the night. Sounds like it was a great night for under-represented women of several kinds!

I was very pleased to hear that 12 Years A Slave won Best Picture. I don't pay attention to the Oscars (that whole not having a TV thing) so I hadn't heard about Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay, but I'm belatedly happy for those also.

It is the nature of such events that a fair chunk of people are going to be disappointed, which does not bring out the best in human nature, unfortunately. I think taking pleasure in the good parts of the evening is the most happy-making way to go.
