Indomitable and Kind

A Pollyannaish exhortation. [TW: The article starts with a photograph of the bombing.] "Empathize, but refuse to be terrorized. Instead, be indomitable -- and support leaders who are as well. That's how to defeat terrorists." -- Bruce Schneier (posted with thanks to

And also, as a friend of mine underscored in her to-do list for today (flocked or I'd link -- it's an awesome list), please be kind. In the wake of yesterday's explosions at the Boston Marathon, many people are variously stressed. Many horrible things happened yesterday, including bombings in several countries, so one of the stressors is how we focus on some but not others, for various sets of 'we' which I'm not getting into at the moment. Please be kind to ourselves -- deal with only the amount of news you can handle, including none at all, hurting yourself with the news won't help anyone -- and to each other, in this time of high emotions. And, well, always, since it's always a time of high emotions for someone.
This is a really corny post, I admit, but I mean it. It's what little I can do to help, to encourage kindness if I can. We're going to need kindness and calm and wisdom in the days ahead, but then we always do.
