I wonder if there's a webpage where someone has a bunch of city maps that are at the same scale so one can compare the geographic size of the cities.

(It would make a very good webpage topic.)

Googlemaps set to the same level of zoom?

Though that isn't what googlemaps was specifically intended for and the functionality might be somewhat impaired.

ETA: Richmond:Palm Springs (though technically Richmond City is microscopic but has eaten the surrounding towns, and "Palm Springs" actually means "Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Thousand Palms, Indio and La Quinta.)

You can do this yourself using Google Maps and a screen-grab program. Just pull up the biggest city you want to include in your collection, and then use the zoom in/out function to view all the other cities at the same scale. For example, Los Angeles will require the 10 mi / 20 km scale. Boston will fit into half of that, and Baltimore into one quarter. Dallas and Detroit are roughly the same geographical size as LA, though you'll have to go larger if you want to count the entire Dallas/Ft. Worth metromess as a single metro area.
