(Excepting Cambridge, whose water comes from a different source.) More info here: http://www.mwra.com/updates/leak.html including a list of affected towns. Apparently, the major aqueduct broke.

With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bikergeek, [livejournal.com profile] thespian and [livejournal.com profile] bercilakslady, who all independently made sure that the Maison D'Etre household had this news.

Good times, right? I figured you'd hear the same way I did (got like two robo-calls, an email and a bunch of texts from BU. Heh).

I'm kind of surprised the city of Boston doesn't seem to have an organized way to get the word out (a bunch of the surrounding towns do)

apparently Boston *does* have a robocall 'emergency call' thing, which they used 2 weeks ago so the mayor could tell people to fill out their city census. However, it was silent during today's actual emergency.

Well, someone should probably tell them since they seem to have fallen back on the cops shouting out of cars method of information delivery. Oh, city of mine *facepalm*

We live in Boston and we got robocalls, FWIW.

Yay Cambridge!

Hooray for being on the Cape at the right moment! (Although I'll have to run the water a while when I get home, I guess.)

Actually, that might be kind of a bad idea, depending on when you get home. 1) As of now the boil-the-water order is still in effect and 2) they need for us to conserve water.

But hooray for the Cape!

After it's over, we'll need to flush the pipes.
