Olympic Moment Du Jour

I intend to write an entry about why I love the Olympics (I love the sports it showcases, I love the amateur athletes even though that term's worn very thin these days, I love the stories of people struggling and sacrificing just to participate in this huge human endeavor) but for the moment have this image:

The Canadian Women's Hockey Team won the gold medal (over the US, no less). When their medal ceremony was conducted, the entire stadium sang "O Canada" with them. I have heard many a hymn in a church that was less joyful and less sacred than that moment of deserved awesome.

*PS Do not argue with me about spoiler-cutting for the Olympics. Not the place, not the time, and I'm not interested.

Yes, this. Even though I'm not a big sports-watcher, I love the struggle and aspiration and the sheer impressive things the human body can do, and I love celebrating it. (Okay, and I'm also a sucker for certain kinds of pageantry.)

Awesome. Why shouldn't a national anthem be joyful and approach sacred?

On the other hand, the IOC is a bunch of jerkwads with sticks up their butts. They're investigating the team for its post-game celebration. (Why? Probably because they're women. And because the IOC is a bunch of jerks.)

The IOC are the villains every story needs. :D Seriously, I hope their ludicrous inquest went nowhere. Those women deserved a party.
