Fake People Tell Fake Stories About The Threat Of Gay Marriage (with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wcg).

Iowa Supreme Court Eviscerates the Right Wing Talking Points (with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thespian)

*refrains from posting these links in the journals of certain friends of my friends, because the difference between me and a troll is that I don't do the things I sometimes think of*

I just can't take the National Organization for Marriage seriously, because... their name is NOM. (I can haz marriage rites? no! you cannot haz!)

The Iowa Supreme Court smackdown was awesome, though. (Iowa. Iowa, before California. I'm still in shock.)

I've had this exact thought about the silliness of NOM's name. Though mainly I've been ragey at the people they send on TV (I really wish Dan Savage were on every single show rebutting every single one of them, Joe Solomnese is too damn nice, and lets them talk over him.)

Well, to be fair, the California Courts did, effectively, exactly the same thing. Which is why we had same sex marriages happening here for a while. Iowa just doesn't have the same populist ease for getting something on the ballot.

NOM have apparently changed their name to 2M4M.

Um.

I know! SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT. Even better, they didn't get on the ball and register 2m4m.org, so someone else did... (http://2m4m.org/)

Thanks for the links. The video left me with a "buh?" feeling. What the hell were they talking about, gay marriage would take away their freedom?? No reason given at all, of course. I don't get, never have or will.

The second link made me happy. State goes over here ............... and religion goes over there. How is that do difficult??

People. I swear.

I've been reading marvelous judicial opinions on same-sex marriage for years now, but it is so much sweeter when it is found in the court's decision and not a dissenting opinion.

When both Washington and New York bought the "freedom to marry opposite sex" argument, I was more than a little upset.

The New York dissent would have been a most excellent smackdown opinion if it had had one more vote. The majority opinion was just baffling in a "Wait, I pay your salary?" kind of way. The state has a vested interest in enshrining procreation and same-sex marriage would compromise that? A moron says what?

Man, this burns me up. A lifetime of Iowa jokes, and now I have to make them about California instead.
