We stayed up until 3 a.m. to try to catch this year's sunrise there

but when no light beam had come into the chamber there by then, we gave up and shut down the computer and went to sleep. moosl had been nodding over the laptop for about 20 minutes already.

We had an invitation to greet the solstice dawn at the Cahokia Mounds Woodhenge (http://www.jqjacobs.net/archaeo/cahokia.html), which has a very nice winter solstice post, but considering that it's only 13 F now at 1:22 CST, I'm glad we didn't go!
