An Assortment

Of topics, rather than writing individual entries and being spaminaceous:
The sky this morning was so beautiful it made it almost worth being up that early. The air was autumnal, clear and cool and pure as a tall glass of water, and the sky was a sweep of glimmering blue, edged with plush clouds as softly pink as a baby's cheeks, the shining moon hanging like an invisible goddess' earring. I kept turning and looking as the guy at the bus stop watched me with bemused amusement, and it was just so vast and lovely.
And people say you can't see nature in cities.

I have been reducing my diet of politics recently. I feel a bit guilty, like I'm letting down my obligation to be an informed voter, but I don't think I'll help anyone by getting an ulcer. At any rate, a random thing that made me happy: Michelle Obama is going to be the guest on the next episode of Paula Deen's show.
This makes me happy for both women (Ms. Deen's gone from being a broke single mom to having a show important enough to feature guests of this stature; Ms. Obama is awesome and even as I feel bad that candidates' wives must campaign so much, I do love seeing her appearances), because politics *is* personal and this is a warm sweet way to present it (combined with food, after all), because Paual Deen is unabashedly Southern and so there's an implicit statement in her inviting Ms. Obama on her show that really encourages me.

In other news, I've been compiling A pile of spirals, because I love spirals and their omnipresence at all sorts of scales, and so I want to make a couple of spiral icons.
hitchhiker recently posted this image (given as a link rather than embedded) which is a trippy delight. I think it's an animation, not a physical reality, but either way it's glorious and I could watch it for an hour.

Speaking of images... I don't have a camera, so I couldn't take a photo of myself as I was when I first saw the "take a photo of yourself meme" but Tigerlily took this candid of me and Eva:

In case you were wondering, the rules I didn't quite follow are:
Take a picture of yourself right now.
don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
post that picture with NO editing.
post these instructions with your picture.

Last but certainly not least, today is Talk Like A Pirate Day! I abused my power at work to announce this on the PA system, and my proper, cool, professional young coworker popped out of her office and exclaimed, "that's right! I totally forgot! ARRRRR!" and ran back in. *glees*
