A Day in the Life

[Would you believe I've been working on this all week?] One of the highlights of my week was Tuesday's dinner with
gosling,
ceo, and their Incredible Expanding Monkey; they very graciously had me, Tigerlily, and the Two Small Redheads over for dinner.
But first I had to get through the day before that, not least including my own stupidities.
Tuesday morning I woke up from a bad dream, caused by Monday's overdose of controversies. I would feel horrible to make myself not care about things, but sometimes I feel like I could just burst with emotion and yet do absolutely no one any good.
But anyway. Groggy and running late I pulled on my dress, a new garnet-red one, and found that the mock-wrap neckline was more of a waistline. Whoops! Struggling to contain my bosom, I buttoned up my jacket and ran for the bus, figuring out a route that would take me by a CVS.
One commute, five minutes' shopping and fifteen minutes sewing in the office bathroom later, my dress was at least street legal, but... goodness. I kept looking down at myself and seeing CLEAVAGE, and wanting to put on a sweater. But it was technically within the dress code (the faculty and staff try to dress within the dress code so the kids can't call us hypocrites if we scold them, and besides, there's something to be said for looking professional) so I decided to brazen it out.
Work wasn't bad --- we had a meeting about what we're going to do this summer, with plans and assigned responsibilities and all that good stuff. I still marvel at the fact that the current administrative team manages to have actually useful and productive meetings. And planning surely beats "you were supposed to do X last week!" as my first notification of a project.
After work I headed to C&G's, and that's where I ran into trouble. Due to a small fire and a subsequent delay at Park Street, I switched to the Red Line, was lucky enough to get a seat --- and fell asleep. And stayed asleep. I woke up pulling out of Wollaston, headed to Braintree. Yes, I fell asleep heading north and slept through the turn-around at Alewife and almost all the way south. Go me. I got onto a northbound train, mentally kicking myself the entire ride for worrying people (since I was 90 minutes late and counting!); at least Quincy looks nice from the train windows (and the stations are far prettier than any Orange Line stations. Oddly enough.)
At any rate, despite myself, I made it to C&G's, where the Incredible Expanding Monkey (who is taller and narrower than when I saw him last; G describes him as looking like he's been stretched, and he really does) teased me half the night about falling asleep on the train. Being teased by a 3.5-year-old is a singular experience.
I also helped take care of Mr. Joshlet, who was enjoying a playdate with the IEM (last time I had dinner at C&G's, the IEM asked me for Joshua by name) until he had an attack of not-feeling-so-good. (Details TMI.) It was... odd and nice in a way to be the local expert, even if I can't really give myself a very high grade (I forgot to feed him the Pediasure that Tigerlily keeps on hand, frex, and improvised with yogurt instead).
So we had dinner, featuring steak from
goddessfarmer's farm, which was slightly tougher and far more flavorful than a supermarket steak, just like the pork chops from her farm, and I wouldn't be surprised if her eggs were the same. It's really nifty to taste such quality. Tigerlily returned from her appointment, ate a bit, fed her red-headed bambini, and discussed breastfeeding and much else with G. Then she filled her car with sleepy people and drove home.
All in all, it was a grand evening, and I went to bed far more contentedly than I had woken up. Now if I could just not fall asleep on the T and get myself whisked off to parts unknown...
