Fandom Snowflake 6: Unexpected Enjoyments

I'm going to take a slightly orthagonal tack on today's assignment of reccing fanworks I didn't think I'd like but did. I agree with
sageness's analysis of this assignment, but what the hey, I do like writing recs posts, so this is how I'll bend the rules a bit: while I read pretty widely, there are some categories of fic I don't tend to read often,so I've chosen fics that fall into at least one of those categories, even though I read all of these specific fics because I had good reason to expect they would please me. (Also, this weekend when I have more time, I need to make an effort to find podfics, art and vids to rec in the next assignments. But that's a note to myself, really.)
Precocious by
graceandfire (STXI, NC-17, Kirk/McCoy and bunches of other pairings mentioned, heed the warnings) In which a character gets regressed to childhood, aka 'kidfic'. But in this case the character is Mirrorverse Captain Jim Kirk of the ISS Enterprise.
The Same Deep Water by Ponderosa (X-men, Magneto/Wolverine, NC-17, "profoundly dubcon"). Cracky pairing, awesome execution!
Close Encounters by
starsandgraces and This Rebellious Nature by
keelywolfe are both NC-17 STXI Kirk/Spock stories (I usually greatly prefer Kirk/Spock/Uhura and Kirk/McCoy). Both are also AUs, and fresh takes on the characters, and thus both stories endeared themselves to me.
So did A Beginner's Guide to Vulcan Sexual Practice: by ThingsWithWings@DW, which is STXI NC-17 Kirk/Spock (and Gaila/Uhura), complex and charming. I love how intelligent and studious Jim is in it. (Yes, studious. Go see what it is he's studying!)
I do actually read fic without sex innit, sometimes. Such as Relieving Pressure by
jedibuttercup (Star Trek XI, Pike, PG-13), and Contact by
danahid (STXI, Jim Kirk-central, PG-13).
And now, the mPreg. And Invasive Alien Parasite Makes Three by
savoytruffle (Mirrorverse, Kirk/McCoy, NC-17), Communique by
dragonsquill and
cassiopeia13 (STXI, PG-13, Kirk/McCoy, Sulu/Chekov, Scotty/TBA, and others), and Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive by
dsudis (Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, R, don't miss the epilogues). I am not usually into mPreg, but these three stories recommended themselves to me by their authorship, originality, and quality, and did not disappoint.
Last but not least, something that surprised me only because I never expected to see it, and I should have: A slashy analysis of A Christmas Carol re-posted by
