Three and Three Meme, Thrice

One of several memes that have been going around.
:
From Magicalmolly:
This is a sort of generic icon. It's pretty, it's inspiring (at least, I always find stars inspiring), and it's unlikely to offend in any context.
Back when I used to read
scans_daily, someone posted a scan of Harley Quinn tacklesmooching Jimmy Olson, with the sound-word "ZIP". Several of us commented that it should say "GLOMP", and a nice person Photoshopped and iconned it for us.
This is from my Fandom Wank anonymouse days. The topic of snarkage was a truly awful book which included the deathless phrase indicated above. Many people think that their opinions and desires are sacrosanct, and a subset thereof are those male people who use their maleness as their reason for claiming such unchallengability; it's not a coincidence that I got this icon back when I read Scans_Daily and got into discussions with self-important fanboys.

This is my only real Vorkosiverse icon, although if I weren't trying to limit my icons to manageable numbers I'd be collecting more. I have it because I believe the quotation; I love Ms. Bujold's philosophy as laid out in those books. Also.... there are whole communities of people in the world who, when I'm mentioned, think of a girl with my face and voice and little to none of my soul. Some days the only way I can bear that fact is to remind myself of this quotation. And that was more emo than this meme warrants, so anyway.
That is a picture of me. Part of me, anyway. It's also my Yummy Food / Offer of Feeding icon.
My Santa Lucia icon, because I wanted a Winter Light-Return Holiday Season Icon that wasn't, well, quite so Christmasy. I know it's not precisely religiously inclusive, but it emphasizes feminity, candles, and light, and one can only get so much into 100x100 pixels.

I simply had to have an icon of Boromir being clambered upon by Merry and Pippin; if I have an interspecies OT3 it's Boromir/Merry/Pippin. Plus, Sean Bean with his mouth wide open! What's not to love?
I'm a slashwriter, I needed an icon of sodomy; plus, this is an *actual piece of Ancient Greek pottery*. I'm pretty sure I've seen it; I know I've seen ones just like it. It's not a Photoshop. That continues to tickle me pink.
Bart is like a dash of sunny enthusiasm with a side order of mild insanity. I needed an Icon of Approval, and this fit the bill.

From Magicalmolly:
- bull-dancing: I have loved the Ancient Minoans of Bronze Age Crete for years and years, and one of their major sports/religious rites is bull-leaping. My conception of bull-leaping is
stolen frominfluenced by Mary Renault's The King Must Die, where she differentiates between bull-leapers, the acrobats, and bull-dancers who don't actually leap *over* the bull but do the catching, throwing, distracting, etc. Of course, dancing around a rampaging bull wearing only a pretty loincloth, a pair of high boots, and a lot of jewelry would also be dangerous, but it wouldn't be quite as supremely high status as bull-leaping; I tend to identify more with people in the not-quite-pinnacle position. So. - miles vorkosigan : Miles! Lord Auditor Captain Miles Naismith Vorkosigan! I am of course unreeling his lengthy name because he's so short. Miles is advantaged enough to have the power we'd like to, disadvantaged enough to be deeply sympathetic, so charming that if he were real I'd
sleep withvote for him, and has the awesomest mother ever. I love Miles. - the night court: This is from my Kushiel Cycle fandom days. I have... *blush* I have a thing for fictional prostitutes, especially with a religious and/or artistic facet. The world of The Night Court among the D'Angelines features both.

- hetairai : Hetairai are "companions" in Ancient Greek. They were the high-class courtesans, beautiful, intelligent, educated, cultured women who made their living by being professionally awesome. In a narrowly bounded way, of course; we're still talking about Ancient Greece, and the sex-for-hire aspect was definetely a large facet, but if I had to be an Ancient Greek woman I'd want to be a hetaira.
- love as thou wilt : This is another bit from Kushiel's Dart and its sequels. It's the D'Angeline motto, and it sounds cool, but I have other reasons for liking it, which I'll get into in a moment.
- wholesome rustic threesomes: This is a Pretty Good Year reference, and a shout-out to certain friends. *blows kisses* I arrived in LOTR fandom after the high-water mark of PGY, but I dove in and loved it anyhow. I love threesomes, and I love the idea that they aren't necessarily seedy nor epheremal; they're a construction of relationships, and can be many wonderful things. (Plus, I am really tired of stories where Rosie Cotton hates Frodo Baggins. I went possibly too far in the other direction in my own stories, but I always... anyway. Yay PGY!)
:
- ancient egypt (less what, more why): I wanted to be an archaeologist in college; I've loved ancient cultures since my Sunday School days. The Ancient Egyptians were long-lasting and utterly amazing, and there's so much more to them than jerkified bodies, painted tombs, and gold masks.
- love as thou wilt : More on this. It echoes the Wiccan Rede, which I have found to be sensible advice. Advice to be tempered with reason, of course, but sensible nonetheless.
- robinosexuality: In a recent post I discussed the DC Comics phenomenon of pairings where more than one person has held one or more of the roles, and the influence of the meta-pairing on any of the sub-pairings within the set. Robinosexuality is the almagam of several cases of that; no matter who the Robin is, or the other partner(s), there's a common thread of being attracted to Robin, to the concept of Robin and how it plays out with each individual Robin. Very often, this shows up in the perspectives of current and former Robins, because of the interrelationship between desire to possess and desire to be.
Also, Robins are smokin' hot, and the first two kicked evildoing ass while wearing green panties.
