I'm sorry that my opinion horrifies you, Ruby, but everyone has her own priorities. This is not one of mine. I'm sure there are things which matter a great deal to me which would touch you not at all, and I certainly wouldn't blame you for it, or think you horrible because of it.
OK, now I have a better idea of what you're saying, and am now not horrified. There are many things that aren't my fight, but they're important to other people, so I wouldn't be dismissive of those subjects, even though I wouldn't devote my energies to them. It was that dismissiveness that got me vicerally, but now I understand just what it is you're saying you have no time for. There are lines we each draw in our individual places, balances we all strike differently.
When I say that, I'm referring to the crusaders that run around trying to make everyone fit into their way of thinking. Are you gonna say you've never run into them? I doubt that, as I've seen you express dismay about those kinds of people on LJ before.
Well, yes, but there's a bit of a difference between saying that everyone needs to write a set of characters with the exact same interpretations and that everyone needs to remember that we're all people. But be that as it may. Maybe it comes down to the summation of experiences. I've seen many people be inflexible and strident in the service of ideals I agree with them on, till I wished them off my side and found myself in conflict with them over their methods despite our basic agreement. But I've also seen many times when things would have been better if someone *had* said something, and many repetitions of certain patterns.
I dunno. Is there any way to want to make certain situations better without being the sort of obnoxious crusader who does more harm than good?
