It is a delight (though not unmixed in Star Trek's case, since the shipwars are starting up again too) to see two of my old fandoms rising from their slumbers, shaking off the dust and looking to the sky. Here's to Middle-Earth and later to the Federation!

Meanwhile, the Yuletide Tales Past Meme. Whee!

Daniel's Dream (R, Lucifer/Daniel, Bibleslash) My first Yuletide, and I got a source I know well. *snerk* Oh, as an ex-fundie, writing this was a liberating experience. Plus, I pleased [livejournal.com profile] glossing, a wonderful person with whom I later became friends!

A Space of Flowers (PG-13, Arthur/Lancelot, Arthurian Slash) My second Yuletide -- and I get the mod omg. I wrote my heart out, and I succeeded! And I made friends with her! *fangirls forever* I based this on my personal favorite take on the Arthurian legend, John Masefield's version. (Incidentally, if you want, I photocopied them out of my edition of Masefield and can send you a copy. He's dead, so.)

I had to default in 2006, and was truly ridiculous about it, so I did some NYRs, Witness Statements (PG, Gotham Central, for my dear friend and fellow DC Comics fanficcer Petra, and Salad-Head (Traditional Fairy Tales, PG-13) because I love retold fairy tales and I had especial fun with that one. I was really critical of "Salad-Head" when I first posted it, beause in my head it was a full-on YA novella, but with the passage of years I've grown to love it. After all, any story where one gets to write, "Jesus was a fuckin' punk" can't be all bad. ;)

A House Well Built (an Ancient Egyptian Myth, rated G) may be my favorite story I've written for Yuletide. It's the kind of story that when other people write it I say "Damn, I wish I'd written that," but finally I wrote it, my tribute to libraries and librarians everywhere!

Beneath the Moon (Top Ten: The Forty-Niners; NC-17) I fell in love with Wulf and Jet Lad, so I wrote them into one of my favorite tropes (see also "A Lesson" and "Wanted to Hold"). Smut for Yuletide is always warming. :)

High In the Sunlit Silence (Sunshine, PG) was more for myself than for anyone else; it's a missing scene from a movie I loved, and that's all I'll say now. *wink*

And the Spare (Shakespeare's Histories, PG) is a brief, fun look at the inside of a character's head. With apologies to the real Richard III, of course.

Fearless, Golden (Renault-fic, PG-13) I GOT TO WRITE MINOANS FOR YULETIDE. (Well, Mycenaeans.) I got to write bull-leaping for Yuletide! I got to write fic based on two of my favorite books in the world for Yuletide! !!!!!!!!!

My Day of Trouble (Shakespeare's Histories, R) Ever since the first time I read Henry IV I've loved Prince Hal; ever since I saw Branaugh's Henry V I wanted Hal/Scroop slash, to know what the great love was that led Henry to such rage when it was betrayed. So I wrote these things (in iambs when I could manage the rhythm), and I'm still very proud of this story.

When writing To Be Under The (Octopus Steals My Video Camera and Swims off with It While It's Recording, an utterly delightful Youtube video, surprise cameo at end, rated R) I had the good fortune to know and adore my recipient. Also, TENTACLES. That is all.

And those are my Yuletide tales, in all their entirety I think. Last but not least, in the spirit of Yuletide, have my roommate [livejournal.com profile] teddywolf's Twas the night before Ficmas :)
