This deserves a signal boost.

When I get home tonight I'm going to cancel my DeviantArt account and write them a note why.

When Transfinite over at Dreamwidth contacted DeviantArt over the fact that the profile requires users to designate themselves as only either 'male' or 'female', DeviantArt's response concluded with:

"If you do not wish to designate your gender and prefer to deactivate your account due to being forced to make this choice then you may do so if you choose."

Further conversation did not grow any less snide, dismissive, or unhelpful. So I don't think that DeviantArt needs my support, at least, in treating people this way.

Apparently it is my day to signalboost.
