Once of the nice things about returning to Star Trek is the incredible wealth of fannish history one can draw on. Having learned my lesson from DC Comics and Doctor Who I'm going to let the past inform rather than overwhelm my appreciation of the newest iteration, but (not least since I'm also a filker) I did want to put two songs in my journal that have been written about Trek (besides, I was overdue for a lyrics post).

Aka, a links post.

"In the black culture, a richness of hairstory" is an article [livejournal.com profile] hammercock thoughtfully linked me to, that's clear and sensible about hair's symbolism, meaning, and issues. It looks like Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America is a book on the same subject that I might want to read, so I'm noting it here.

Meanwhile, because WD loves me and knows what I like, he sent me this Youtube video of two of my favorite things to stare at, Mike Rowe and a Lava Lamp.
