vagabond_sal has an excellent entry on why the casting matters, glockgal debunks many of the common responses, and aang_aint_white has organized a letter writing campaign Also, when her fictional world of Earthsea was similarly treated, Ursula K. LeGuin wrote two essays that are well worth rereading in light of the current discussion.
I'd wanted an Avatar icon for awhile, and finally acquired this one because of this discussion; I haven't posted about A:TLA until now because it wasn't one of the fandoms I intended to produce fannish content for, and now I wonder if I should have. But, be that as it may. I am not in a mood today to argue over why being persistently erased is hurtful and infuriating, but I thought I should put a note in my diary about this discussion, and signal-boost the above links to those who can use them.
