Science Fiction Bonding

I found yesterday that the dental hygenist I've been assigned to is a fan of SF in general and Orson Scott Card in specific. I didn't debate OSC's politics with her (one, she was so happy to find a fellow specfic aficionado; two, it seemed unwise when she was using a sharp implement on my teeth) but I did tell her that he's the guest at this year's Vericon, and I hope she goes and gets her copy of The Redemption of Christopher Columbus signed.

All that made me think about how I'm not attending Vericon, or Arisia, but it's a beautiful day and I'd rather relax and write than be maudlin.
