A Sense of Wonder
Oct. 8th, 2007 11:37 pmSo we were watching a TiVoCast about the hundred dollar laptop, and the presenter noted that many bloggers are snarky about it. Which, combined with several recent instances of friends having to deal with people dumping on things they love, made me think about how many people go from childhood's wonder to adolescent snarkiness and stop there, seemingly figuring that because snarkiness is a development beyond their starting point that it must be the adult state.
As for me, I think there's a place in the world for a mature sense of wonder, which acknowledges the imperfections of the universe but still delights in its good point. But then, even though I live in a city, I look up at the dawn and at Orion in the sky. And I think there's a place for hundred-dollar laptops with pretty darn impressive engineering, even if they don't have every one of the bells and whistles some bloggers might require.
