Fruitcake Making Fruitcake
Sep. 3rd, 2006 10:07 amIn other news, I am a madwoman.
I don't think summer is quite over, meterologically speaking, but we recently had the first breaths of fall. For many people, this sets them anticipating flame-colored leaves, sweet cool air, pumpkins and jackets and apple-picking. *hums a few bars of "When Fall Comes to New England"* And I am, too.
But I'm also thinking about fruitcake.
I've started writing and rewriting my shopping lists. I've placed my first orders for equipment and ingredients. I've inventoried my recipes and my cake pans. I've thought about themes, flavors, and decorative motifs. I've made my first -and-hopefully-only- extravagant purchase (crystallized flowers). And I find myself contemplating it all with this ridiculous, burgeoning joy.
The only things better than making fruitcake and decorating it are mailing it off to friends near and far, listening to the ones nearby make happy noises and getting the long-distance smiles by email and card and phone. And I can't wait.
