The summer is half over, and I haven't done anything I meant to do during it. I've done many things I hadn't planned to do, written several stories I didn't have on my Summer Story List. But I haven't done any of the things on my list. I don't know whether to feel productive or useless.

Recently, I've been hearing more and more about people in medicine and allied health wanting the "right of conscience", the ability to refuse to perform actions that would ordinarily be considered part of their job if those actions conflict with their religious beliefs. Or, to be precise, the ability to refuse to perform those actions and suffer no consequences.

[livejournal.com profile] osewalrus has a wonderful answer to such people, which I'm not going to attempt to summarize. I wish I could print it and send it to my aunt who proudly told me how as a nurse she proselytized to her patients. more of my thoughts )
