browngirlAt least some excellent essays are arising from or being referenced in the ongoing discussion concerning an incident of sexual harassment at this year's Readercon.
One common complaint levied against efforts to reduce sexual harassment is that they intend to and/or will unintentionally "make flirting impossible"; another is that they will disproportionately punish the socially awkward. After all, these issues are important not least because of the phenomenon analogized excellently here as 'The missing stair' in an essay which discusses what can happen when we prize social cohesion and retaining certain members of a community over the safety of other members of that community (often those who are deemed as lower in status and worth).
