Three Disparate Things

Each of these deserves its own post, but I try not to be spaminacious.
seanan_mcguire was to have had a story in the YA Anthology Wicked Pretty Things until another of the authors, Jessica Verday, was told to change the male-male romance in her story to a male-female one. This was the decision of the editor, Trish Telep, but the publisher is standing by it. (Click on the links to Ms. Verday's blog to read more details. Also, to see some examples of people desperately equating pushing back against bigotry with bigotry itself-- some of the comments are wondeful, some really not so.) Ms. Verday has pulled her story rather than kowtow to homophobia, and Seanan has pulled hers in support.
Speaking of anthologies, here's a good one: Tales for Canterbury, featuring a story by
karenhealey, to benefit the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.
Also, my friend
karadin has created the beautiful image Compassion as an ongoing fundraiser for Red Cross Japan.
In our Boston Organics share on Friday we were given beautiful blood oranges. (As this blog post puts it, they'd go so far if they were called sangria oranges.) I ate one but two are left, both with such gorgeous purple skins I can't bear to just rip it off and discard it. What desserts, baked or otherwise, could I make with these lovelies that would let me showcase the color of their zest and juice?
