*laughs bitterly* A year ago, I would've answered this differently, wouldn't I?
I am Black, I am a woman, I am fat, I am not a Christian, I am bisexual, I am polyamorous, I am politically liberal and a feminist and chose an education in the sciences. I contain multitudes, as they say. It took me a very long time to realize that if someone doesn't think members of one of these groups are really sentient human beings, or if they think membership in one of these groups is tantamount to moral turpitude, their counting me as an exception is not a compliment. It took me a very long time to realize that if someone tells me that I am lying or deluded or hallucinatory when I describe my life experiences, they are not my friend.
But I eventually did realize.
