I was given an opportunity to support a cause I believe in and a brave and dedicated friend as well.

I realized belatedly that that could sound self-aggrandizing. What I mean is:

In the face of big problems and events, I often feel helpless -- it's a common human reaction. I really appreciate chances to help a little bit, to do something, no matter how small, to support what I think is right. So, yeah, this is something I feel is helping the world be a better, freeer place, and it made my (rather suckful) day better to have the chance to contribute to it.
