I was going to write a political post this morning, but the avalanche of choices was overwhelming (Turdblossom's threatened tell-all book! Gov Blagojevich's astounding corruption! Pat Boone's asinine equation of protests against Proposition 8 with the attacks in Mumbai last month! And those are just a selection). All of these are getting a fair amount of press, though. So instead I'll link to this, which [livejournal.com profile] supergee linked to:

"Most of us know the story of the two African American athletes (Tommie Smith and John Carlos) who stood on the podium during the 1968 Mexico Olympics and raised black-gloved fists in protest against racial inequality in the US.". [livejournal.com profile] thirdworld's post, honoring the anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is about the third man.

In it he says: There are many such forgotten heroes in history... I think these unknown soldiers play an important part in bringing about change. We should have a day to honor them, a day when we dig up these old stories (where we can) and put them back in the sunlight where they belong. I couldn't agree more (I agree with what I cut, too, but my post is already too long) and so I wanted to point out his excellent post.
