Proposition 8's Loathsome Kin

As I said to
redaxe, I had hoped that I'd only heard about Proposition 8 in California because there weren't any other defending-marriage-by-taking-it-away-from-people measures on the ballots for this election. Alas, I was wrong.
redaxe wrote an informative post about Florida's Proposition 2 (which would also dissolve current civil unions) and Arizona's Proposition 102. Rather than imperfectly duplicate his work, I'll point you to his excellent post. *grateful wave to
redaxe*.
I recently saw someone comment that people from outside California and other states dealing with these issues are 'carpetbaggers'. I was thinking about that, and what I concluded is that there's a difference between, say, setting someone else's tax rates, and supporting people fighting against the legalization of discrimination. Bigotry in any one place, not least bigotry given the force of law, diminishes people everywhere.
