Politics keeps finding me.

Tonight as my cabbie (one of the ones I'm friendly with) drove me home he asked who I will be voting for. He's Middle Eastern, so I figured I wouldn't start a fight if I told him the truth, and I was right. We agreed about Secretary CLinton for a bit, and then he sadly told me about how most of his clients are elderly and White and voting for Trump.

He sounded so sad, and I'm so angry on his behalf. It amazes me how people can say to someone's face, "I'm voting for the guy who's promised to get rid of you."

So we commiserated about how racist this country is, and I gave him a big tip and a shoulder pat. I may be a freckle amongst his usual clientele, but I'm here and I don't want to vote him out of this country.

Either that, or they're doing the cliched "$bigoted_remark...oh, I don't mean you, you're different" which is no comfort at all to the person being insulted or threatened as a woman or immigrant or Black or LGBT or... and then told not to take it personally.

We live in strange times. We arrived in the Czech Republic yesterday and I've just been trying to explain to my mother-in-law how desperately dumb Brexit-Britain is. My wife got tired out with translating.
