This is Why

This is why I don't root for sports teams. By which I mean, if I'd been watching The Game last night and cheering along with the rest of Boston for the Red Sox, they would have lost; everyone whom I root for loses (just ask the people I watch Jeopardy with).

Of course, this is the other reason. "Our team won! Let's go riot! Woohoo!"

As opposed to, "Our team lost! Let's go riot!"?

Yes, sweetie, obviously my point was to say that only the losing team's fellow citizens are permitted to riot.

My point was that in this town, as well as many others, the fans riot whether the team wins or loses, so invoking Murphy's Law to try to avert a riot won't work. :-)

Oh, if I had the power to avert riots!

Unfortunately it's easier to start riots than avert them. "It takes an idiot to raze a village."

You too? I thought it was just me. (With group sports, anyway.)

Nope, not just you. :) When I was younger I used to follow individual ice skaters and swimmers and so on, but I've never been much for team sports.

Likewise. The only sport I really enjoy watching is ice skating.

Not everyone who roots for a sports team thinks, "Our team won/lost! Let's go riot!" Some of us think, "Our team won/lost! How can we avoid the idjits who are rioting?"

Fear not, I know. And it's not like you're your fellow sports fan's keeper. But it does seem to be a depressingly common reaction....
