The Devil Has All The Best Tunes

So, I was standing on the T, drowsily free-associating on the subject of titles, as I have a story which I need to title. The phrase "triumph of the will" drifts into my head, trailing vague echoes. I think, "that's kind of a cool title, but I think it's taken. Yeah, it's the title of something, but I can't remembber what. Something important and mythic. It is a good title. I know I've heard it someplace..." Then I was distracted by an ad for beer or something, and noodled off again.

Two stops later, like a splash of cold water, I remembered just what "Triumph of the Will" is the title of. And then I had the urgent desire to kick myself in the head.

*facepalm*

Oh, dear. I should not be giggling quite as hard as I am, should I?

Okay, I need context... *googles* Oh. Eek.

Yeah, the title of your entry definitely applies!

FWIW, "Trimuph of the Will" was the name of a song by Devo. But I don't think they were the first to use it.

It sounded familiar to me too but I didn't know why so I googled it too. Oh yeah....

And before I looked it up I was going to mention how titles are not copyrighted and can be reused, but now I see why that is not such a great idea :).

Hee! I was thinking, "Well, sure, references to Nietzsche need to be used sparingly and with relevance..." And then I remembered Riefenstahl. *headdesk*

AT least you know the reference, when I saw it be used in Disney's The Lion King I was appalled. Course, my fave flavor used to cosplay in an SS uniform.

Didn't click until I googled :)

*snickers*

Yeah, that's got a rather concrete association :-)

Oh, definitely... it is a shame, isn't it?
