Fannish Poetry

bironic, I thought I'd write a short post about fannish poetry.
Poetry as fan work is a very old tradition: consider 'Homer's Batrachomyomachia', an epic poem about a battle between mice and frogs that parodies the Iliad and was almost certainly not composed by Homer. (Also here in Ancient Greek.)
As for me, I love poetry, but my most poetic fandom has plenty by the author so I didn't think of adding more. I'm glad others thought more imaginatively, such astigerbright, who wrote a soliloquy for Boromir that breaks my heart in the best ways. ![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
petra writes quite a bit of lovely accomplished fannish poetry in many fantoms, including but not limited to limericks and posts in blank verse.

I had two entries--one a form I haven't tried before, a humorous form called a "clerihew" and I did a sonnet about Gandalf. The other three were very nice as well!
