Mini-DVD Meme Rides Again
I was going to stay up till midnight so this would be posted tomorrow, but I'm groggy. Anyway, this is going around, and I thought, why not?
Pick a passage from my stories, up to 500 words, from anything I've written in this journal, and comment to this post with that selection (including a link to the story being excerpted). I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the story, awful puns [perhaps], and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
Like Petra over at Dreamwidth I reserve the right to lie egregiously about anything over 3 years old. My stories are listed by character (and sometimes topic) here: http://rubynye.livejournal.com/tag/

Leah takes a slow breath, her sides twinging, and another, and a third. Only then does she ask, "What do you want with me? Sir."
Kirk barks a laugh and gives her that wide bright smile of his, that looks to people who don't know him like sunniness and charm. "You're my favorite," he tells her, patting her cheek. "You don't go anywhere. Now get better already. Little Tiernan is trying her best, but she's just not you."

So, that Leah/Kirk dynamic. Which I meant to comment on! The ways in which it's Kirk/McCoy, with the challenge and the banter and Kirk pushing McCoy, and the ways in which it's Mirrorverse, with the threat and the dysfunction and Leah's omnipresent fear, and the ways in which it's male-female, which, well, if I write about *that* I might scare people, but that's an axis as well.

Whenever she calls him 'sir' it's deliberate. One day I'll write her calling him "Jim' and it will be a huge moment.

That nu!Kirk grin. So close, so far away.

Poor Yeoman Tiernan thought she'd gotten promoted to Captain's Woman. By the time Leah was well enough to discharge herself from Sickbay, Tiernan didn't want the job anymore.
